Basant Utshav
Basant Utshav from 12th to 28th Februry at Puri and Toshali Sands
The festival of Basant Panchmiheralds the arrival of spring. Throughout the world, Spring is welcomed as the season of hope and rebirth. It is in this spirit that this festival is celebrated not only in the schools but today it isfestival of culture, dance and dramas.
The first Basant Utshav will be introduced from this year and there will be in every evening the colourful dance program, invited from various states the cultural troups to celebrate this festival. The eminent artists will be participating in this festival for period of 17 days.
Saraswati puja is a festival dedicated to the Indian Goddess of learning and fine arts. Considering the emphasis laid on both these aspects in the school and colleges, it is befitting that the students worship the Goddess and seek her blessings. A clay idol of the Goddess is made and beautifully adorned by the students themselves, but today it is festval of the great town of PURI . They give vent to their creativity and their reward is a deep sense of accomplishment. After traditional worship, the idol is immersed in the river. A solo music and various instrumental musics and competition is also organized and tourists are encouraged to enhance their musical capabilities.
This festival — although it involves the worship of a Hindu Goddess — is truly secular in character since Art knows no boundaries, and neither does Spring.
