Situated on the Coromandel Coast in an enclave in Tarnil Nadu’s South Arcot district, Pondicherry is 162 kms. south of Madras. It is the capital of the Union Territory of the same name and has three other enclaves including Karaikal in Tamil Nadu, Yanam in Andhra Pradesh and Mahe in Kerala. Pondicherry has a long history dating back 2000 years when it was an important Roman trading post. Though the Portuguese were the first Europeans in Pondicherry, it is the French connection that made this city famous.
Pondicherry still maintains something of its French flavour in its street names, policemen’s kepis, spellings, the French accent, a mixture of French words in ordinary conversation, and research institutions and monuments which are named after and dedicated to French heroes.
And while you are in Pondy you cannot miss the world-famous ashram of Sri Aurobindo.
Day 01: Chennai - Pondicherry
Today arrive in Pondicherry on your own and check into the Hotel. Explore the town (on own). Overnight at the Hotel.
Day 02: In Pondicheriry
Today after breakfast depart on a sight seeing tour of Pondicherry (on own). Spend the evening at leisure. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 03: Pondicharry - Chennai
Today you have some time to spend just strolling around this beautiful Indo-French town or just do some shopping. Return to Chennai relaxed and with a lot of new memories.
