Lord Ganesh or Ganapatis one of the favourite Gods in the Hindu Pantheon. With his adorable and benign appearance, Lord Gandesh has carved a permanent niche in the hearts of his followers.
No Hindu Festival is complete without an invocation to Lord Ganesh. He is the remover of obstacles. He grants wisdom, peace and prosperity to his worshippers and is known to bless all those who come to him for help.
In Orissa and Maharashtra, Vinayak Chathurthi is celebrated with great fanfare and grandeur. The connection between the two states is well known. Orissa was at New Delhi point in medieval times ruled by the Maratthas.
In Orissa,Ganesh Puja is celebrated by virtually eveyone from all strata of society. Numerous Idols - large and small can be seen on the wayside attracting potential buyers.
The devotees fast till the Puspanjali (offering of flowers) and then the Bhog is divided between them. Bhog in Orissa usually comprises of seasonal fruits, coconut in particular and also Chuda Ghassa which is a mixture of Sugar, Chuda and Fruits.
