The important plateaus are : the Keonjhar-Panposh plateau, the Upper Vamsadhara plateau and the Nowrangpur-Jeypore plateau.
The mountainous portions of Orissa, which are also forested, COver about three-fourths of its total area and are inhabited mainly by the tribal population.
