Sun temple
Sun temple. Temple dedicated to Surya or sun god at Konark ,It was built by Ganga king Narshimhadeva I (12341245) ,The main temple has collapsed -only the Jagmohan of this unique world famous’monument has survived .The joint structure of the Vimana (main temple) and Jagamohana (the porch)have been based on an immense terrace with Stambhesvari.An autochthonous deity represented as an wooden pillar or a stambha .She was adopted into Aryan culture and has been worshipped by king Stutikara(500AD) of Kalahandi copper plate, by the Sulki kings of Kodalaka ‘ Mandala and by the Bhanja kings of Khinjali Mandala.
