Sambalpur
Sambalpur. District H.a. In 9th century it was a part of South Kosala over which Somavamsi king Janmejaya-I (882-927 AD) established his sway. Balarama Simha, the variety. Sambalpuri language has a rich heritage. Language agitation in Samabalpur in 1895 when Hindi was introduced in place of Oriya as the official language. Dharanidhar Mishra led the agitation. Oriya was restored as the official language in June 1902. Sambalpur Hiteisini, an Oriya paper was published from Sambalpur with the patronage from Bamanda chief, Sudhaladeva in May, 1889 - was edited by Nilamani Vidyaratna from 1889 to 1923 in Jagannath.
