Samanta Chandrasekhara. Astro -physicist, born on 13th December 1835 in the ex-state of Khandapada to father Shyamabandhu Singh and mother Vishnumati Devi ~ his famous work Siddhanta Darpana was published in 1899 known as Mahamahopadhyaya Chandrasekhara Singh Harichandan Mohapatra. The planetarium at Bhubanesvara is named after him- Chauhana king was the ruler in 1790. The Marathas occupied Sambalpur in 1799.lt was annexed to the British India in 1849. Surehdra Sai fought for the freedom of Sambalpur against the English. Hirakud dam, Badarama santcuary and Samalesvari temple are notable sites. Sital shasti and Sambalpuri saree are famous for their splendour and Ballabh Press.
