Saktism
Saktism-A religious cult based on the worship of sakti or female god, particularity the consort of Siva. Sakti is worshipped in the forms of Durga, Kali, Chamunda, Yoginis as well as village deities (Grama devatis) - the followers are known as saktas. Sakti shrines of Viraja, Sarala,Charchika, Bhagabati, Mangala, Tarini, Samalesvari and Ramachandi are famous. Sakti cult in course of time mingled with pasupat cult of Saivism and Sahajiya cult of Buddism and appeared as a tantric cult.Mahabharata, Markandeya Purana, Devi Mahatmya, Devi Bhagabat and some puranas (Vayu,Vishnu,Linga,Agni and Matsya) deal with sakti cult.
