Puri the Cult of Harihar
The sculptural depiction is found in the Upper Jangha of the Vimana of Shree Jagannath Temple. Again, traces of Jainism are also found from the name of Jagannath which is another name of Adinatha and Risabhanath. The wheel, the Kalpabata, Kaivalya etc. also show the traces of Jainism. The prevailing Saivism during 9th and 10th century A.D., which matured into the Harihara cult is also seen at Puri, with Saiva Temples of Lokanath, Kapalomochan and Jamesware (these are older to the Jagannath Temple). The active role of these Gods in the Jagannath Temple has closely followed the cult of Harihara.
