Puri the Cult of Goddess
Shri Jagannath is regarded as Bhairav and Dakhina Kali, as Bhairavi. Vimla, as Parvati and Balabhadra as Shiva also form the thought process of Tantricism. Goddess Vimala was enshrined during the Ganga period along with Laxmi in the premises of Jagannath Temple and after offering of Afada to Vimala it is regarded as Mahaprasad. During sixteen days of Aswina (October) the puja being offered to Vimala as Durga is also note worthy. Thus the Jagannath cult is a mature one which absorbs all prevaling cult of contemporary period and is regarded as unique in India.
