Oddiyana
Oddiyana- A centre of tantric cult of Sahajayana Buddhism. The place is identified with the sea coast of Ganjam called’ Udayana. Odissi dance - A form of classical dance, one of the six classical dances of India (Bharat natyam, Kathakali, Manipuri, Kuchupudi, Kathak and Odissi) - originated through the devadasi, Mahari and gotipua dances - based on the dance principles of Natya Sastra of Bharata Muni and Abhinaya Chandrika of Mahesvara Mahapatra-it follows tribhangi style and embraces stages such as Mangalacharana, Batu, Pallavi, Abhinaya and Moksa. Prominent gurus of the dance are Kelu charan Mahapatra, Gangadhara Pradhan-prominent dancers are Sanjukta Panigrahi, Sonal Mansinha, Madhavi Mudgal, Dr. Minati Mishra and Priyambada Hejmadi.- It is depicted in Orissan temples, F.R. Odissi is another form which has not acquired classical status. - it is based on Dhrubapada (ghosa), chitrapada (arrangement of words), chitrakala and Panchali (multi-lined lyric such as chaupadi, chhanda and chautisa) - lyrics of Charyapada Gitika, Gitagovinda, Sangitarnava Chandrika, and Sang ita Kalpalata have provided foundation to it- it is composed on theme (bhava), kala (time) and swara(tune)based on navatala.
