Nayagrah

Nayagrah lies just off the central part of Orissa surrounded by jungles, wide rives and hilly tracts, Nayagarh has grown in leaps and bounds in the last decade. There has been a perceptible rise in population in the last few years. School, Colleges and Coating Institute have mushroomed and the roads are dotted with posters and advertisements on Bill-boards.

This bustling township lies in the tribal belt of Orissa. In the neighbouring areas there are many tribal settlements.

About twelve percent of the population in Nayagrah are of tribal origin. Before urbanization, Nayagrah was mostly a tribal district where the people continued to follow the age-old patterns of life designed by their ancestors. Increased urbanization has marginalized the tribal segment of the population who find it increasingly difficult to come to terms with modernity. However, some NGOS and Government run centres have made some difference in the lives of the people.

Nayagrah has vivid colours, a tranquil space and lush green vegetation. It is truly a sight for tired eyes. Like other places in Orissa, Naygrah has its share of Temple.

Dakshin Kali Temple
An important seat of the Shakti cult, it is a major center of worship of Hindus but mainly those who belong to the Shaivite sect. Orissa was an important center for Tantra and Tantric cults throughout the centuries and the Mother Goddess was an important pivot along which the cult has moved to its present stage.

The Jagnnath Temple
Dedicated of Lord Jagannath this Temple is much smaller than its namesake at Puri. This Temple pulls many visitors to itself throughout the year.

Jharadei Temple
Her is another Temple where the presiding deity is Goddess Jharadei, known to be the remover of obstacles and to bring forth luck and fertility to the chosen ones. Jharadei Temple is an important place of worship in Nayagarh and attracts hordes of visitors during the year.

Mangala Temple
Greenery, Calm and quiet.. at the Police Training School Siva Temple

The Goddess Mangala is inter-woven into the fabric of Orissa and occupies an eminent position in the patheon of Gods and Goddesses. An incarnation of Kali and Durga, she is protector of the weak and the meet and possesses incredible powers. This Temple is dedicated to Goddess Mangala and many rituals revolving around the Goddess are followed in pain-staking detail by her followers.
