Toshali Sands

Coming back from the Lokanath Temple and passing on to the western door of Jagannath temple one is supposed to catch the road in the north-west corner which almost leads to the Markandeya Sarovara named after Markendaya Rishi. This is a ‘Tirtha’ like Swetaganga. The devotees take ablution here on different holy days. Here there is the Temple of Markandeswar Mahadeva and a Temple of Saptamatrakas. It was the ‘Tantric’ sport in the 12th century A.D. when Chodagangadeva ruled Orissa.
