Kumar Purnima Festival of Puri
The Kumar Purnima festival falls in the month of Aswina. This festival though observed in honour of Lasmi the Goddess of wealth has also a folk aspect to it. The two sets of priests, one representing Lord Jagannath and other Goddess Laxmi play dice on this festival, though one day not know for certain who wins and who loses. None the less, this satisfies the Lords.
Besides this some other festivals observed in the Temple are Sayan Ekadasi, Samazik Chori, Chitalagi, Gamha, Purnima, Krishan-Lila, Magha-Purnima, Bakula Amabasya, Odham Sasthi etc.
Besides these traditional festivals, the other festivals like Puri Sahi Yatra, dance festival, songs festival and Beach Festival exclusively tourist oriented cultural extravangzas are organised at Puri in the month of April through March.
