Jainism - Mahavira preached Jainism in Kalinga ( Jaina Harivams Purana). Kharavela brought back Jinasana from Magadha. The caves of Khandagiri and Udayagiri were used by the Jain monks. Jaina relics are found in Jajpur, Hatapada, Ayodhya in Balasore, in Khiching, in Mayurbhanja, in Baidakhia in Keonjhar, in Charmpa in Bhadrak and in Nandapur and Subei in Koraput district.
Jagamohan. See Mukhasala Jagirdar . An intermediary landlord who dominated the society and exploited the people. Jagirdari system was abolished after independence. Jajpur. Previous name Jajanagara- could be the capital of the Bhaumakara and Somavamsi rulers- Yayati I established Brahmin habitations and performed a horse sacrifice on the bank of river Baitarani. Gangas built a fort here - major centre of antiquities and pilgrimage because of Viraja pitha, image of Sapta matrika, Garuda, Padmapani Buddha, Varaha, Trilochanesvara and Siddhesvara temples. Jana- Congress- Political Party branched out of Congress in 1967 and formed coalitian government. Dr. H.K. Mahtab was the founder of the party.
