Gundicha Temple
This Temple is known otherwise as ‘Janak puri’ because, here according to Puranic legend the King Indradyaumna performed the sacrifices and the Lords, Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra and Sudarsana appeared on the altar. During the Car-festival the Lords spend nine days and there after they go back to their own Temple (Bada deula) ceremoniously performing the famous “Bahuda Yatra. Near the ‘Gundicha ghar, the Narsimha Temple, Indrayuma Temple and the Indradyumana pond are very interesting to look at. Indradyumna Sara is a sacred one and counted as one of the ‘Panchatirthas’ like the sea, Swetaganga, Markandeya Pond, Narendra pond etc. It is also interesting to see the big tortoises there in the Indradyumana Sara accepting food without fear from the hands of the pilgrims. The people believe according to tradition that these tortoises were human beings in their past life and had carried huge stones on their backs for the construction of the Temple of Jagannath (Bada deula). Therefore they became tortoises since them. So they are only the living witnessess of the building of Jagannath Temple by the legendary King Indrayaumna. With this notion people bow down to them with high respect. Thanks to the people as they are born religious and believe any impossible thing if it is connected with the religion. Even now-a-days the educated modern people are not found free from this credulousness.
