1. Mahabishuba Sankranit (April 14) Mahabishuba Sankaranti or Pana Sankranti is celebrated as the Oriya New Year throughout Orissa. On this day, people offer delicious “Pana” a sweet drink to the Tulis Plant and Lord Shiva.

2. Chaitra Praba (April) The Chaitra Praba or Chha festival commences from 10th o4 11th April every year and continuous for three days concluding on “Mahavishuba Sankranit Day” at Baripada. This is a festival of festivals which is enjoyed by the people all over Orissa. Chaitra Poornima is on April 27.

3. Tara Tarini Mela (April) The “Taratarini Mela” one of Orissa’s biggest fairs, take place on each Tuesday in the month of “Chaitra” from around mid March to mid April at Taratarinia pitha -30 km from Berhampur - A grand congregation takes place on the 3rd Tuesday.

4. Ashokstami (April-20) The car festival of Lord Lingaraja at Bhubaneswar, Ashokastami is held in the bright half of ‘Chaitra’. The protégé of Lord Lingaraja is taken in a chariot from the main temple to Ramewsar Temple and return after a four day stay.

5. Ramnavami (April 21) The festival “Lord Ram’s Birth Day” falls on the 9th day of the bright half of ‘Chaitra” and is observed by the devotees all over the country. Devotee perform puja at every Ram Temple and keep on enjoying throuh out the day and night by observing yajna, Ramila (based one Lord Ram’s life story) to please the Lord. Odagaon of Nayagarh is very famous for its unique way of celebrating ‘Ramnavami’.

6. Jhamu Yatra (April) ‘Jhamu Yatra’ is usually celebrated in the month of Chaitra (April - May) in various places of Eastern Orissa like Banki, Jaipur, Jagatsinghpur and Talcher, Situated on the Prachi Valley, Kakatpur is famous for this ‘Jhamu Yatra’. The special attraction of the festival is the walking of the devotees over narrow trenches containing lighted embers.

7. Chadaka Mela Situated on the border line of the Orissa-West Bengal limit and about 80 kms away from Balasore, Bhogarai is famous for Chandaneswar Shaiva Pith (Shiva’s place). Every year during the month of Chaitra (April - May) this place marks the celebration of the greatest ‘Chadaka Mela’, especially observed in the Northern part of Orissa.

This year the Chadaka Mela commenced from 1st April to 13th April. On the eight day and tenth day of this celebration “Kamina Bibaha (Marrige0″ and the royal procession of marriage were held respectively according to the customs. The ‘Nila parba’ and ‘Pata parba’ ceremony held on 12th and 13th April were celebrated with much enthusiasm. Many devotees were present on this occasion to worship Lord Shiva and get blessing from Him.

Around lakhs of devotees came to make this fair a successful one. The District Collector of Balasore has arranged every possible measures for the devotees.
