East India company. The company, launched in England in1603, established its contact with Orissa coast at Hariharapur (modern Jagatsinghapur) in 1633. English factories at Hariharapur and at Balasore hastened the Bengal conquest by the English. Orissa came within the political orbit of the company on 12 August 1757 when Clive got the diwani of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa after the Battle of Plassey . The East India Companyy conquered Orissa in 1803 as a result of the Treaty of Deogaon.The company was abolished in 1857-58.
